Jumeau Dolls – History Of Jumeau Dolls
Jumeau dolls were made from 1842 until 1958. The Jumeau company was founded by Pierre Francois Jumeau in the 1940’s.
The first dolls made were paper mache dolls and by the end of the 1950’s, porcelain dolls.
In the 1860’s, they were French fashion dolls with bisque heads. The heads were supplied by companies such as Francois Gaultier.
In 1873, Jumeau started it’s own porcelain doll factory.
Emile Louis Jumeau took over running the company in 1874, with his wife Ernestine Stephanie Ducruix making costumes for the bebes and poupees.
In the 1870’s, Jumeau started production of the famous bebe dolls. They had exaggerated eyebrows. The Jumeau poupees are highly sought after by French fashion doll collectors.
They company won numerous awards for their dolls.
In 1899, were bought up by S.F.B.J.
